Festivus for the rest of us.

My dear Canadian friend Susanne asked me what chitlins are. While doing a search for a link to send to her, I found this.

People in the South can turn anything into a festival. Some things just should not be celebrated. Someone stop the madness!

The link to the Chitlin Festival also had this delightful little poem that cracked me up!!!

I am not a Chitlin' eater;
But a Chitlin' eater's son.
Someone else can eat de Chitlin's
'til de Chitlin' eater comes"

Horrifying, isn't it?

I'm definitely NOT a chitlin eater.

No. Way.

Okey, dokey. Being a Hungarian background Canadian, pig's feet & cracklin's I get, but chitlin's. I think I'll pass. Thanks for the research anyway. :vD

Oh my...had to comment on this...

Where I grew up, we had the Chitlin Jamboree every fall. George Wallace, former governor of Alabama, often attended and led the parade through town.

We had a princess and queen and loads of fun booths that sold items and hosted contests.

There was a greased pole climbing contest and the highlight of the day: chitlin eating contest (nasty).

I could smell those chitlins cooking from my house. I'll never forget how gross it was.
