Kid Nation?

I know I am opening a can of worms, here, but I have to ask.

What do you think about Kid Nation?

If you are not familiar with the new reality show, go here to find out.

Personally, I find it cruel. Sure, it makes for good ratings and sure, kids are tougher and smarter than we acknowledge.

But, in a day when adult issues are forcing some of our kids to grow up faster than they should, we have to draw the line somewhere.

Let them be kids! Give them opportunities to shine as kids. That's what makes them so special.

Here's an idea. How about adults acting like adults. Hmmm....

I totally agree. I didn't watch the premiere, but I think we don't need a show that will give kids the idea they don't need adults in their lives. Too many of them already have that attitude.

I have to say the whole idea was disgusting to me. When I read some of the stuff that parents had to sign for their little children it made me sick to my stomache. I cant imagine signing away my child's purity or safety like that.
Just my opinion

I hadn't heard about this, but yikes and double yikes!!! I thought Survivor was bad (from what I heard), but to put kids out there by themselves? Crazy! (and of course there are film crews everywhere, but still, I know Hollywood and in the effort to get a good story I wonder just how far they would let some things go...)

I had no idea.

Why hasn't anyone called Child Protective Services?

What a bizarre thing to do to the preteen set.

Last night as we flipped through the channels to find something to watch AFTER OUR CHILDREN had gone to bed, I saw this Thing. I asked my husband what it was and when he told me, I immediately just turned the tube off.

SERIOUSLY.

I've seen Survivor--and if this is ANYTHING like it (and I've not read the whole premise just like I've decided not to read about the Sally Field rant 'cause it will do nothing but tick. me. off.) I seriously DO think that CPS should be called.

Adults don't even do well under that kind of stress. How do you just turn a child loose like that? I'm going to visit a friend tomorrow in Dallas, and my 6 year old boy cried--real tears--and he's not even a Momma's boy.

Ugh to the network. . .the parents. . .the person who thought it up. SHAME. SHAME. SHAME.

That's what I think.

I guess I have mixed feelings. I totally understand valleygirl's comment about kids getting the idea they don't need adults. But there is also the chance they will discover just the opposite.

I haven't researched the show, so couldn't tell you about the waivers and things the parents had to sign... so I can't answer to that. But I did see the first episode and was impressed by the maturity level of some of the kids.

One good thing that could come of this is that it could actually help some kids' self esteem increase. In today's world of overregulation, kids don't have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work too often (outside of taking out the garbage and helping with housework). I think the kids will find out they are capable of more than they ever knew, which in the long run will be a good thing.

I'll reserve judgment until I see more, but the first show was not as horrible as I was expecting.

Sounds sick to me. How could a parent do this to their kid? Why can't we have a reality show that shows a kid playing games or just being kids?

So well said! I completely agree!

(Oh, and I know that Star Trek episode Deena was talking about...)

I was wondering though...I haven't seen it, but isn't there a few adults around?- there has to be or who would be filming and producing it? I mean, if anything drastic happened, wouldn't they have to step in? That was one of my first thoughts seeing the commercial...

But I agree...it's all a disturbing concept and children should just be children!
