Time to tighten the grip

So, Miley is embarrassed about a photo shoot today.

I don't blame her. I've seen a preview; I'd be embarrassed, too.

Honestly, I feel really bad for Miley.

She's only 15 years old. The world is going to hate the possibility of her turning out to be Okay. "Okay" doesn't make headlines. "Okay" doesn't sell photos of stars leaving rehab or getting arrested.

The world doesn't want her to be "Okay" and they are going to do everything they can to ruin her.

But, her family? Her family is there to protect her.

I hope.

Here's something to think about-

When you were 15 years old, if the most famous photographer in the country wanted to give you the full beauty treatment- make-up, hair, designer clothes- and take your picture for one of the most famous magazines in the world, wouldn't you jump at the chance? Wouldn't it make you feel special, wonderful, like a princess?

Now, what would your mom and dad say?

What would my Mom and Dad say?

Unequivocally NO!

If I was 15, it would have seemed unfair, like they didn't even consider the gem being offered to me.

But now that I'm the Mom?

I'd still say NO. But it would be hard, only because I know a teenager isn't going to understand.

But that's what being a parent is all about.

I didn't get to go on my senior trip because it was too far from home.

I didn't get to ride with certain people to places

I had to put on EVERY swimsuit and EVERY formal gown for my Daddy before we could take the tags off. . .not because he wanted a peep show, but because BEFORE I even took it off the rack. . .BEFORE I even tried it on in the store, Momma would say, "Now remember, you have to get it approved by Daddy first." And I knew what that meant. That meant I'd better not be embarrassed for my Daddy to see me in it. That meant it better be modest. It better be high on top and low on bottom.

My husband now does the same thing for our daughter. He has to say it's okay, because he's a man and he knows what and how men and boys think.

So I'm wondering what about those photos her Daddy found appropriate--including the one made with him.

Well my mom and dad might have said yes to a famous photographer but they certainly wouldn't have said yes to me dropping my shirt and being half wrapped in a sheet, I'll tell you.

What I find the icing on the cake is how none of the adults are taking some ownership. Why is a 15 year old being hung out to dry on her own and made to apologize to the world without an adult standing up and taking the flack. Personally I think the photographer should be majorly apologizing for comprimising a minor and putting pressure on her,(Miley has been quoted as saying "you just don't say no to Annie Liebovitz). Why aren't the parents apologizing that THEY made a mistake in allowing those photos. Why is the magazine not apologizing that they didn't have better control over the photographer and printing photos of a minor in provacative poses? I find it extremely disturbing that no adult has stood up to protect this child but has left her hanging in the wind on her own facing the maelstorm that is happening right now.
